Mission trip – March 2020
- 25 people including many first-timers’ formed the team that visited Uganda.
- Primary Focus Points: God’s Love and Care School and CEED water wells.
- Enjoyed wonderful welcome ceremony and departure ceremony with lots of praising the Lord for what has been accomplished, African style dancing, drums, music, and singing.
- Personal Visits to homes in the nearby community (first time we have done this).
- RoboTutor … explain purpose and goals, tablets, software, launch training.
- Continued computer literacy training for teachers.
- Enlarge the library … took about 400 pounds of new books. New shelving now needed.
- Construction … new Kindergarten-Nursery Building foundation, two more 5000-liter water collection tanks, 3 steel flagpoles, chicken nesting boxes, pig water station.
- First-aid station cabinet to safely store and organize all medicines and materials.
- Ladies meetings … sewing, women’s hygiene, mental health.
- Men’s meetings … Bible study, responsibilities as husbands and fathers.
- Young men’s and women’s meetings … puberty, sexual development and responsibilities.
- Prayer walk all around the school campus.
- Primary school student-managed farm project … met with Dr. Musheshe to learn how this program works and to consider the possibilities at God’s Love and Care School.
- 17-acre Farm project … review the possibilities of irrigation with Herbert Asiimwe and Jim West.
- Visit three water well sites in one day: 1- completed, 2- borehole drilling underway, 3-village in dire need of water. Result: At least 3 new boreholes funded by members of our team.
- Introduced to many Ugandan leaders through evening “Meet-and-Greet” presentations.
- Worship together with Ugandan friends in 4 different local churches.
- Visit the local prison and present the Gospel message there.
- Evening devotional times led by various members of the team.
- Show “The Jesus Film” on the school soccer field in the evening. Many saw it for the first time.
- Photos and background information collected on 318 students and all teachers/administrators.
- Distributed more of “The Shoe That Grows” to younger students at the school.
- Reviewed and updated plans for the new Vocational Training School on the campus where classes in agriculture and sewing/tailoring will soon be taught.
- Taught “The Ten Commandments” to all students using a catchy song as well as presentations on each Commandment by members of the team.
- Delivered many letters from USA sponsors to students and teachers. Also brought many letters from the Ugandans back to their USA sponsors.
- Team members had a lot of interaction with students and teachers. Result: Nearly 20 more students will now have a US sponsor. Distributed “Gospel Bracelets” and explained the meaning.
- Hosted a visit to the school by the local health team for treating jiggers, ringworm, and stomach-worms. The health team reported fewer health issues were found than ever before.
- Made an effort to visit very poor villages to bring encouragement and some essentials (clothing, etc.). Although thwarted by authorities in making a personal visit, as much was done as possible.
- Distributed newly purchased textbooks to teachers of all classes (baby through P-7). This is the first time that the teachers have had actual approved textbooks to work from!
- God made the trip possible … the team left just before the Coronavirus reached epidemic proportions. The team members returned in two waves … ten came through Brussels one day before that airline shut down. The last 15 had to be rerouted through Ethiopia and left only one day before all travel in-and-out of Uganda was shut down. No illnesses … no injuries … no major travel delays … many ministry goals accomplished. Praise the Lord!
